Pool Demolition
Pool removal comes in two forms, and the one you choose affects what you can do with the land afterwards. A partial removal is faster and cheaper; a full removal costs more and leaves you with a lot you can build on and disclose cleanly when you sell.
What the job covers
- Partial removal — shell broken, drained and backfilled
- Full removal — the entire structure broken out and hauled away
- Draining and disposal of pool water
- Surrounding decking and coping removed where required
- Backfill placed and compacted in lifts
- Area graded to blend with the surrounding yard
What affects the quote
- Partial versus full removal — the single biggest difference in cost
- Access to the back yard for equipment, and whether fencing has to come out
- Whether the pool deck, screen enclosure or spa comes out too

Before you call
What is the difference between partial and full removal?
A partial removal punctures the base for drainage, breaks the top of the shell down below grade and backfills over it. A full removal takes the entire structure out. Partial is quicker and cheaper; full is what you want if you intend to build over the area or want the cleanest position when you sell.
Will the yard be usable afterwards?
It is backfilled and compacted, then graded to blend in. What you can build on that ground afterwards depends on which removal you chose, which is why the decision is worth making before the work rather than after.
