Interior Demolition
Interior demolition is selective work — strip out what has to go while the building itself stays standing and, often, stays occupied. It is the phase a general contractor needs finished cleanly, because every trade that follows is working off what is left behind.
What the job covers
- Selective strip-out of walls, ceilings, flooring and fixtures
- Millwork, cabinetry, storefront systems and finishes removed
- Plumbing and ductwork cut and capped where the drawings call for it
- Electrical devices and fixtures stripped back
- Structural elements left intact and protected
- Debris removed floor by floor, site swept and ready for the next trade
What affects the quote
- Whether the building stays occupied and which hours are workable
- How much of the shell, deck or mezzanine has to be exposed
- Dust and noise control where neighbouring tenants are trading
- Elevator, stair or loading access for getting debris out
- Hazardous materials in flooring, ceiling tile or fireproofing
Every job is quoted after we understand the site. Photographs of what needs to come down, and of how a machine would reach it, get you an accurate number faster than a description will.
Common questions
Before you call
How is this different from a full demolition?
The shell survives. The point of a strip-out is that the structure, and usually the roof and exterior walls, stay exactly as they are while everything inside comes out to the line the drawings specify.
Can you work nights or weekends?
Often that is the only way to do it, particularly in a centre where other units trade during the day. Restricted hours are common on interior work and are better priced in from the start than added later.
